Blaming the cook instead of the recipe
The human being sketched by many of our ethical ideals is hardly ever personified in real life. An ethical ideal resembles a cooking recipe in that it usually contains a description of a final exquisite dish and a vague recipe with which to make it. Looking at some, I sometimes realize that some of the materials they require for such dishes do not exist, or if they do, they don’t turn out into the exquisite dish that is described by the recipe when put together, no matter how carefully you follow the instructions. However, most creators of ethical recipes, instead of blaming the recipe, blame those who try to cook it. In the end, both end up hungry.
